Patient Info

If you have been referred to us for consultation for glaucoma, cataracts, or other eye problems, please arrange to have your previous ophthalmic records sent to us prior to your scheduled appointment. On the day of your appointment you may expect to be in the office for approximately 2 hours. In addition to a complete eye exam, your doctor may request testing your field of vision and possibly other specialized diagnostic tests during the consultation visit.

We want all our patients, especially those visiting us for the first time, to be completely informed and comfortable with the care we provide. The following are some guidelines for patients visiting our office for the first time.

Plan to arrive 20 minutes before your first appointment to complete new patient registration (you can download the form to the right and bring in the completed materials). You will be in the office 1 to 2 hours for a complete exam. You will need to bring all glasses you currently wear and a complete list of medications.

When completing the health history form, be specific and as detailed as possible about health problems. Certain conditions may affect the health of your eyes. We have strict guidelines in place for all staff to follow for the protection of your privacy (see privacy policy form to your right). We are in compliance with state and federal laws that protect the privacy of your identifiable health care information.

Dilation of the pupils allows us to see the back of your eye and is an important part of a complete exam. After dilation, near vision (reading) and, to a lesser extent, distance vision (driving) may be affected for 3 to 5 hours. You may drive home, with caution, after dilation. We provide sunglasses if desired.

An exceptional staff supports our doctors. This group includes Certified Ophthalmic Technicians and Certified Ophthalmic Assistants. Together, they are knowledgeable in all aspects of patient care and dedicated to meeting the very special needs of each patient.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

How long will my appointment take?

Appointments last anywhere from 1-2 hours. If you are new to our office, the appointment may be closer to 2-2.5 hours, depending on the testing that will be performed.

Can I get a glasses prescription? How much does it cost?

Glasses prescriptions are not covered by medical insurance. Because of this, any prescription given out will be considered as self-pay. The out-of-pocket cost for a refraction (glasses prescription) is $50.

What tests will be done?

We have a number of diagnostic tests available at our office. Depending on the condition(s) we are testing for, tests may include: visual field examination, pictures of the retina, ocular lens measurements, auto-refraction, intra-ocular pressure check, dilation, etc.

How will I be billed?

If your insurance plan requires a copay, that must be paid when you first check in for your appointment. Otherwise, we will bill your insurance the following day. Any required payment that is not covered by your insurance will be sent to you as a statement via mail.

Can I drive after I'm dilated?

Dilation of the pupils allows us to see the back of your eye and is an important part of a complete exam. After dilation, near vision (reading) and, to a lesser extent, distance vision (driving) may be affected for 3 to 5 hours. You may drive home, with caution, after dilation. We provide sunglasses if desired.
